Origins of Us

Synopsis
Three-part documentary series in which Dr Alice Roberts reveals how the human body tells the story of our evolution. The way we look, think and behave is a product of a six-million-year struggle for survival that transformed us from forest-dwelling apes to the most powerful species on the planet.

Programme 1 - BONES - In the first programme Dr Roberts examines our skeleton with its long legs and narrow waist, which, together with our naked, furless skin and rounded bottom, reveals how our ancestors survived on the open plains.

Programme 2 - GUTS - This episode examines how our ancestors’ search for food changed the shape our faces, the way we see colour, and even how we look for and keep a mate.

Programme 3 - BRAINS - Was it really our big brains that enabled us to succeed where other human species like the Neanderthals died out?

Notes
No longer actively trading BBC videos. The BBC Active site was run by Pearson Education and brought together the previously separate BBC collections covering English Language Learning (formerly BBC ELT), resources for foreign language learning, and the Schools section. The main section of the old site was Broadcast Learning (previously known as BBC Videos for Education and Training and more recently BBC Learning) which listed a selection of general output broadcast programmes that BBC Active can supply for purchase by educational institutions.
