Diary of an Ecobuild

Synopsis
Charts the conversion of a terraced building in the Welsh Valleys into an environmentally friendly and energy self-sufficient building. Goes quite deeply, though in layman’s language, into this ecological conversion.
Phase 1. The building work - steelwork being erected - explanation of the insulation (hemp) - underfloor heating by hot water via a heat exchanger.
Phase 2. Alternative sources of energy - solar collector panels on roof as a supplementary heating system also producing 65%of hot water in winter and 90% in summer. Small wind turbine on roof. No running costs and free electricity. Air to water heat exchanger (heat pump). Photo voltaic panels produce electricity the year round. This is a practical introduction to really cutting down on energy use.
