Synopsis: Psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, heir to Sigmund Freud and the English school of analysis, was an eloquent interpreter of the transformations of the Western family, the decline of patriarchy, the contradictions of love, the illusions of the French Revolution, and the logic of madness.

This two-part documentary is a fascinating and spectacular demonstration of the way Jacques Lacan deploys his discourse. It was conceived like a puzzle, in which the biography of Lacan and the concepts he elaborated are skillfully interlocked. He is charming and provocative in front of a large audience, and the next day, during the interview with Françoise Wolff, he reveals another of his innumerable faces. The film sheds light on the tragic dimension of this great Freudian thinker. For the first and only time, Jacques Lacan consented to be interviewed by a young journalist from the Belgian public broadcasting network RTBF, because it was a programme for the general public. Moreover, uncharacteristically, he gave her permission to film his lecture at the prestigious Catholic University of Leuven.
