Statute Law: Making Legislation

Synopsis
This series of short audio/video interviews followed by a lecture, recorded in November 2010, provides a unique insight into the process by which legislation is created in the United Kingdom. All the interviewees are involved in the making of legislation in Whitehall, in Parliament or in the wider worlds of politics. Those interviewed include a politician (Lord Falconer of Thoroton), a departmental lawyer, a drafter, parliamentary officials, a legal adviser to Parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights, and the Law Commissioner (Lord Justice Etherton). Further information on individual lectures is available at: http://www.statutelawsociety.org/teaching_legislation_materials.

The recordings were produced by the Statute Law Society, an educational charity devoted to promoting knowledge and understanding about legislation and the legislative process, and the Oxford Institute of European and Comparative Law. Academic institutions wishing to order a free set of DVDs with all the interviews and the lecture for educational purposes should write to statutelaw@aol.com
