Winter’s Sleep, A

Synopsis
There is more to hibernation than just ‘sleeping off the winter’. Observations of the Canadian ground-squirrel have shown that this animal can control its sleep, even at body temperatures close to freezing. Dr Kraig Heller of Stanford University explains how hibernation might have evolved.
