Painful Reminder, A: Evidence for All Mankind

Synopsis
The 1985 Granada television documentary which looks at the making and banning of a documentary made in 1945 about the liberation of the Belsen concentration camp in 1945, which was made with the collaboration of Sidney Bernstein, Alfred Hitchcock, Richard Crossman, Noel Annan, Martin Gilbert, and Colin Wills (Head of film in the Allied Psychological Warfare Division). The working title of the film was MEMORIES OF THE CAMPS.

When Allied cameramen arrived in the concentration camps in early 1945, they made a once-in-a-lifetime effort to ensure that the truth of what they saw with their own eyes was documented on film. The result of the footage taken by British forces was to have been a major motion picture release within six months of the war’s end. This 1985 documentary is the first showing of most of its contents, and explains the extraordinary reasons why this film was never released. Filled with first-hand, modern accounts by survivors of the camps.
