Girl Who Would Be God, The

Synopsis
This short film was commissioned for the Sylvia Plath 75th Year International Symposium ‘Creative Process and Product’ held at Oxford University in 2007. The film focuses on previously unresearched areas of Plath’s creative development in her late childhood and early adulthood and makes an original contribution to scholarship in these areas. In particular, the film appraises Plath’s visual and musical interests of the time and asserts a position in relationship to her creative development before she made the decision to focus on a literary career. The inspiration for the film includes a journal entry made by Plath on 4 November 1949, her Juvenilia poems Cinderella and Aerialist, her teenage drawings and paintings, and her own musical interests.
