Nero’s Golden House
- Synopsis
- As emperor of the Roman Empire, Nero had a reputation for tyranny and extravagance. Nowhere was this more evident than in his Golden House, the most opulent villa in all of ancient Rome and part of a vast complex of palaces, pavilions, and temples constructed in his honour. But despite its aesthetic beauty, the building became renowned for acts of violence and sexual depravity that Nero not only knew about, but sanctioned. Drawing on archaeological evidence, comprehensive historical research, and high-end CGI, Phil Grabsky attempts to separate the man from the myth and figure out just what went on inside Nero’s Golden House.
