Counselling Approaches - The Person-Centred Approach with a New Client

Synopsis
This film uses a role play of a first interview with a client to demonstrate the core conditions of person-centred therapy. These are embodied in acceptance of the client (warmth), deep understanding of the client’s predicament (empathy) and refusal of the counsellor to be anything other than himself (genuineness). The role play should appeal to newcomers to counselling as well as more experienced students.
