36th Albert Wander Lecture: Beyond Quality in the NHS

Synopsis
Video recording of a lecture give at the Royal Society of Medicine on 14 April 2010 by Professor David Haslam, Immediate Past President, Royal College of General Practitioners, and National Clinical Adviser for the Care Quality Commission. He examines the notion of quality and the way it affects NHS targets. Quality is often now described as the central organising principle of the NHS. No-one would wish for anything else. Indeed, the statement appears totally self-evident. But the critical question is what we mean by "quality". The aims of the lecture are to stimulate thought and discussion on the possible meanings of "quality", and the unintended consequences that may result from getting the focus wrong. (33 minutes)
