Collaborative Choreography: An Approach to Making (Conversation with the New Art Club).

Synopsis
This DVD resource uses the example of New Art Club (Pete Shenton and Tom Roden) as a successful model for collaborative choreography within British new dance. Created from the perspective of the undergraduate student researcher-producer, the DVD seeks to highlight how a collaborative choreographic model might offer a more useful experience and approach to creating and making, than that of the traditional example of the individual maker in contemporary choreography. This DVD is arranged around a series of questions put to New Art Club about their approach. It is divided into useful chapters, which explore the following areas: Starting up: Rules, Expectations and Organisation; Being Creative Collaboratively; Valuing Collaboration; Sustaining and Maintaining Collaboration. The topics, methods and experiences discussed and illustrated can be used to shed light on the seemingly unheard of and undocumented co-creator/ownership approach to making dance work.

Co-researched and produced by tutors and students at De Montfort University.
