- Synopsis
- Feature film. Mary Hagan (Temple) lives in small-town Ohio and is subject to vicious gossip about the identity of her father, Tom Bates (Reagan), rumoured to be a prominent lawyer. When the lawyer returns to town and begins a romance with Julia Kane (Maxwell) Mary’s favourite teacher, Mary attempts suicide. Bates rescues her when she throws herself in the river and appears to fall in love with Mary. Julia encourages Mary to audition for a part in Romeo and Juliet but pressure from the college authorities force her to give the role to another student. The student falls ill and Mary performs the part to great acclaim.
