Thirties in Colour, The
- Synopsis
- Offering powerful, poignant and often surprising insights into the pivotal years of the1930s, this BBC4 documentary series brings to viewers a global treasure trove of rare colour films - many of which have never been broadcast before. It was a decade that erupted into colour. In the 1930s, polychromatic photographic technology really came of age, and in the years 1931-37, three important processes - Dufaycolour, Technicolor and Kodachrome - were patented and brought to the market.
For the first time, amateur film-makers really could capture the world in authentic, vibrant Colour. Through the images captured by intrepid travellers, cultural anthropologists and documentary film-makers traversing the globe in the years before the Second World War, The Thirties in Colour goes back in time, to enable today’s viewers to share their extraordinary adventures and thrilling transcontinental journeys. - Language
