Tightropes and Safety Nets: Counselling Suicidal Clients

Synopsis
This DVD can be used either by individual counsellors who wish to explore their own personal and professional responses to suicide risk, or by training groups to prompt thought and debate around these difficult and sensitive issues.

The vignettes presented in this DVD are drawn from direct work with suicidal clients, and from face to face discussion with many counsellors who have attended the Tight Ropes and Safety Nets training workshop. They capture important and challenging professional dilemmas faced by counsellors in their work with suicidal clients.

Separate sections cover: perspectives on suicide from the client’s and counsellor’s points of view; talking about suicide with a client; assessing suicide risk; the counsellor’s process.
