- Director Andrew Neel delves into the personal and professional life of his famous grandmother, painter Alice Neel, in this documentary. Born in 1900, Alice Neel lived an unconventional life as both a single mother and an innovative artist. To tell her story, her grandson’s film incorporates her own photography and artwork, as well as interview footage with experts, her family, and those who sat for her portraits.
