Apollo 11 - A Night to Remember

Synopsis
On July 20 1969, Apollo 11 became the first manned spacecraft to land on the moon. Piloted by veteran astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, Apollo 11 took its place in history, as one small step was taken on the lunar surface. Introduced by legendary astronomer, writer and television presenter Sir Patrick Moore.

Originally shot for the BBC, this special edition of The Sky At Night, a tribute to the incredible endeavours of Armstrong, Aldrin, Collins and NASA, celebrates a night that captivated the world. Man’s unbridled desire for exploration of our world and those beyond is captured here on this special DVD.
Through intensive and painstaking reassembly of historic clips from the BBC’s video and audio archives together with original NASA footage of the mission itself, A Night To Remember is a treat for those too young to have seen the mission launch from Kennedy Space Center and land safely on the moon a mere four days later. The film provides an insight into a time when space flight was all the rage, and the space race dominated the politics of the day. Interspersed with live reports from science journalist James Burke, the film provides a light hearted and informative guide to the realities of spaceflight. From what it’s like to live in zero gravity, demonstrating escape chutes and revealing how an astronaut pees when strapped into a space suit, Apollo 11 is an educational trip back in time to when dreams were made and man conquered the moon.
