Fighters/Real Money
- Synopsis
- Two films by British director Ron Peck. FIGHTERS (1991) is a documentary feature that follows a group of aspiring young British boxers through training to their first big fight. It is often cited as the definitive documentary on the subject of boxing. REAL MONEY (1995) is an improvised drama film, acted by the boxers who appear in FIGHTERS. It tells the parallel stories of young boxers lured into lives of crime and easy money, the trainer who is determined to help them, and the ruthless gangster who pulls the strings.
These films are startling documents which explore the enduring appeal and potency of the image of the professional fighter - in cinema and as part of our own fantasies and aspirations.
