Part A studies the production and processing of timber, including methods of sawing, the structure of a tree trunk, the drying process and examination of timber structures. It covers the classification of wood, methods of harvesting, saw milling, drying of hardwoods and uses for hardwoods.

Part B considers mechanical timber grading, characteristics of commercial softwoods, plantation management, milling, particle boards, microwave modification of timber, glue
laminates, log veneers, decorative veneers and medium density fibre board.
