George Bernard Shaw’s Caesar and Cleopatra

Synopsis
Highly acclaimed 1976 US television adaptation of one of George Bernard Shaw’s best-loved works, broadcast in the "Hall of Fame" series. Starring Alec Guinness as Julius Caesar and Genevieve Bujold as Cleopatra.

On campaign in Egypt and aging Julius Caesar becomes captivated by the beautiful, young and capricious Cleopatra. Caesar promises to turn the young girl in to a Queen fit for Egypt - tutoring her in the ways of power. But Egypt is not Rome and although Caesar can conquer the country can he tame her future queen?

A truly outstanding performance from Alec Guinness as the ultimately tragic Caesar and a sensuous, complex performance form Genevieve Bujold which rivals and other screen portrayal of Cleopatra.
