Nature of Depression, The

Synopsis
This programme follows the treatment of two patients with severe depression at an in-patient unit. They have different presentations. The programme is inter-cut with comments from psychiatrists, nurses and therapists. As it happens, both patients have suicidal thoughts and they vividly explain these in some graphic detail. The programme follows their progress over six months and includes follow-up. Implicit in this follow-up is the fact that a good and sustained recovery is possible. The programme is an extended version of the Introduction to Depression DVD and is more suitable for a student and professional audience. There is some discussion about the causes of depression and the outline of treatment.

DVD extras include the video diaries and extended interviews.
