Introduction to Depression
- Synopsis
- This programme follows the treatment of two patients with severe depression at an in patient unit. They have different presentations. The programme is intercut with comments from psychiatrists, nurses and therapists. As it happens, both patients have suicidal thoughts and they vividly explain these in some graphic detail. The programme follows their progress over six months and includes follow-up. Implicit in this follow-up is the fact that a good and sustained recovery is possible. Treatment is mentioned to some extent but the emphasis of this programme is on the nature of the condition.
The intention is to provide an overview of this condition from the patients’ perspective. It shows the nature of the symptoms and what can be achieved. Severe depression is often misunderstood and by watching this programme friends and relatives will have some idea of what the patient is going througH.
Intended for the general public, carers and service users, The programme is a shorter version of the NATURE OF DEPression DVD WHICH IS is more suitable for a student and professional audience.
