Synopsis
Shows the prenatal development of a baby after conception, and emphasizes the importance of the mother’s healthy lifestyle. The video/DVD explains: the main characteristics of growth and development in each of the three stages of prenatal development: the germinal, embryonic and foetal periods; the functions of the organs that nurture and protect the developing organism: the placenta, umbilical cord and amniotic sac; how the different types of twins may develop: fraternal/identical, monochorionic/dichorionic; the importance of good nutrition and a healthy, well-balanced diet; the effects of malnutrition; how maternal/paternal factors and environmental hazards may influence or interfere with the health of the unborn child; the three determinants of risk (timing, amount and genetic make-up); the effects of maternal drug use, smoking and alcohol consumption; three positive guidelines for mothers during pregnancy - maintaining good health patterns, good prenatal care from early in the pregnancy, and the support of family and friends.
