Interview with Peter Kosminsky, An

Synopsis
Peter Kosminsky, director of BRITZ and THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR, talks to Broadcast in an online video interview about his role as the industry’s self-confessed "troublemaker".

The interview is in four parts:
Part 1 CAREER PATH AND EARLY YEARS - looks at Kosminsky’s career path and early works (7 mins);
Part 2 Criticism of ITV and fears for the future - THE director talks about "rocking the boat", fears for the future of film-making and an "emasculated" ITV (4 MINS);
Part 3 BRITZ AND THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR - the director talks about David Kelly drama The Government Inspector and Britz, revealing how a 52-year-old white male could write about second generation Muslims living in Britain. Kosminsky also discusses his directing style and how he worked with actor Mark Rylance to deliver an understated but powerful performance as the late Dr David Kelly in The Government Inspector (6 MINS);
Part 4 CHILD ABUSE DRAMA AND NO CHILD OF MINE - the director talks about highlighting the inadequacies of the care system in No Child of Mine and the difficulties that surrounded making the abuse-themed drama. With No Child of Mine (1997), Kosminsky was one of the first directors to tackle the subject of child abuse. The drama was based on the true story of a 13-year-old girl who was repeatedly sexually abused. "No Child of Mine was without question the most difficult and troubling film I’ve ever made and I genuinely don’t know if I’d make it again now," he said (4 MINS).
