- Synopsis
- Presented by Theatre Masterworks. The two records are based on a performance in Hartford, Conn., on 5 December I952, in aid of the American Shakespeare Festival Theatre. Profits from the sale of the records went to the same cause. Includes the Prologue to Henry V, Hamlet’s advice to the players, Jaques’ ‘seven ages’ soliloquy, the discussion of the suitors from The Merchant of Venice, and the wooing scene from Henry V. Side 2 is a series from Richard II, including the deposition scene and the farewell to the Queen. Side three includes Viola’s first encounter with Olivia from Twelfth Night and Act I v from Macbeth; the fourth side follows with the murder scene, sleepwalking scene, and the ‘tomorrow’ soliloquy and concludes with Prospero’s epilogue. Songs by Richard Dyer-Bennett. Narrated by Margaret Webster.
