Jenny Tiramani

Synopsis: Christie Carson interviews theatre designer Jenny Tiramani. Tirimani speaks of the influence of seeing local amateur productions as a child. She talks of her working with Ultz, John McGrath and Mark Rylance and her admiration for the work of Peter Sellars and The Wooster Group. She works with scrapbooks rather than drawings and has different design approaches for different venues. Tiramani describes at length designing for Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the importance of live music at the Globe. She comments on Shakespeare as a tourist attraction and the problem for women of performing in Elizabethan dress. Finally she briefly mentions the importance of casting and costume in the interpretation of a play and on teaching stage design.
