Forgotten Men of the Valley of the Kings, The
- Alternative title
- Les Hommes Oubliés de la Vallée des Rois
- Synopsis
- In modern Deir el-Madinah, located near Luxor in Upper Egypt, extremely rare vestiges of an Egyptian city from the time of the Pharaohs have been found. Kha, Sennedjem, Pached, Nakhtaman and Inerkhaou lived here with their families, over 3000 years ago, at the time of the New Kingdom. Members of an elite craftsmen’s guild, they built, carved and painted all the monumental tombs in the Valley of the Kings and Queens: extraordinary masterpieces which no living eyes were supposed to see, after their own.
This film by Jérôme Prieur (Corpus Christi, Origin of Christianity, Vercingérorix, Awakening Appolo, etc) shows us how these artists and craftsmen worked and even ventures to describe their daily lives.
It gives us an exceptional opportunity to explore their own small, decorated tombs. Their mementoes and belongings, now in collections in the Louvre, the Egyptian Museum in Turin and in Cairo are contextualized in such a way as to bring these ancient personalities to life. - Language
