Still Life at the Penguin Cafe
- Synopsis
- Issued to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of Simon Jeffes, the founder of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, which had a unique brand of music drawing on classical, avant-garde, pop, folk and ethnic music. The DVD comprises a documentary with Jeffes and a performance of the David Bintley’s popular conservationist ballet with the Royal Ballet of Still Life at the Penguin Cafe, filmed in 1989. The ballet is set in a cafe where penguins and humans resemble each other and an exuberant cabaret is presented by a succession of exotic creatures.
Dancers under the masks include Deborah Bull, Bruce Sansom, Phillip Broomhead, and Stephen Jefferies. - Language
