Percutaneous Dilatational Tracheostomy in the I.C.U.

Synopsis
The technique of percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy is demonstrated in detail. This procedure has advantages over surgical tracheostomy in that it can be performed at the bedside at the convenience of I.C.U. staff and also avoids having to move unstable patients to theatre. Accordingly it can make a major contribution to the management of vulnerable patients.
