Synopsis
Radio feature. Author and historian Jerry Brotton investigates the history of relations between England and the Islamic world during the early modern period, a complex alliance that he finds dramatised in Muslim figures appearing on the English stage at the time, such as Shakespeare’s Othello, Aaron, and the Prince of Morocco (The Merchant of Venice).
