Stratford-Upon-Avon Pageant of 1927

Synopsis
Interest film. A record of the pageant, directed by Randle Ayrton, held in aid of the rebuilding of the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre on 9 July 1927. ‘Queen Elizabeth’s Progress’ with actors in Elizabethan costume is followed by the ‘Garrick Pageant’ with players in Regency costume. The leading figures make speeches (given in intertitles) and kneel before a bust of Shakespeare. A final title asks that the new theatre built should be worthy of Shakespeare’s name.
