Synopsis

Current affairs and news series. Includes an item (c 8min) on the Royal Shakespeare Company presented by Joan Bakewell. Trevor Nunn, Director of the RSC, makes a plea for increased funding and states that Stratford should remain the Company’s main home. Sir Kenneth Cork, chairman of the RSC, says that the Barbican Theatre in London was built especially for the RSC and states that the RSC should received the same funding as the National Theatre. Tony Field, Finance Officer of the Arts Council. says that the RSC should examine its structure and then work out how it can continue in the light of funds available. Muriel Pogmore, Stratford District Council, thinks that Stratford has been used as an experimental theatre and believes audiences want more traditional plays.
