Arterial Blood Gas Sampling

Synopsis
The St George’s Clinical Skills series is designed as a teaching and revision tool for undergraduate medical and healthcare students. Where appropriate, relevant anatomy and physiology is also covered to create an in depth understanding of each technique. All programmes are designed with full menus to enable viewing of the full programme or selective sections — particularly helpful for revision purposes

This programme is in four sections, Anatomy, Equipment and Technique and using a Self Assembly Sampling System. Using live action and animated graphics, the sections cover: Why arterial blood samples are taken; Anatomy of the arteries of the forearm; Standard equipment, and how to use them; Contraindications, including Allen’s test
Location of the arteries; Detailed technique of arterial blood sampling; Safe disposal of materials; Making a self assembly sampling system, and its use. The programme is particularly aimed at Medical and Healthcare students, but will also be useful for any healthcare staff in revising their technique.
