Synopsis
The St George’s Clinical Skills series is designed as a teaching and revision tool for undergraduate medical and healthcare students. Good technique is demonstrated to provide step by step guides using live action and animation. Where appropriate, relevant anatomy and physiology is also covered to create an in depth understanding of each technique. All programmes are designed with full menus to enable viewing of the full programme or selective sections — particularly helpful for revision purposes

This programme is in five sections.The first three cover the Anatomy, Equipment and Technique of Cannulation, and the final two the equipment and technique of integrating venepucture with cannulation. In all cases both live action and animations are used to cover: Cannulation; Anatomy; Location of veins in hand and forearm; Identification of suitable sites; Avoiding venous valves; Equipment Types of cannulae; Selecting the correct cannula; Other equipment required; Technique Preparation of the patient; Detailed technique of cannulation; Indications of successful cannulation; Removal and disposal; Integration of cannulation and venepuncture; Equipment Type of Vacutainer to use with cannulae; Technique Detailed technique for taking venous blood samples via cannula.
