Synopsis
Radio programme. In this episode of his weekly series on work from various composers of the past three centuries, Charles Hazlewood examines the ‘Fantasy Overture’ from Tchaikovsky’s Romeo And Juliet. Working with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Hazelwood explores how Tchaikovsky distilled the essence of Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy into music. He also compares the composer’s different versions of the piece. The programme ends with a complete performance of Romeo And Juliet.
