Flu Time Bomb

Synopsis
As a virulent new strain of influenza spreads across Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East on the wings of migratory birds, scientists look to the past in order to prevent a future global pandemic. The clues are locked in the long-dormant genes of history’s deadliest plague—the 1918 Spanish flu. After reconstructing the virus, they discover ominous parallels between that strain and the current H5N1 bird flu. Armed with a new understanding of how influenza pandemics form, scientists on the flu frontier trace the evolution of H5N1, hoping to stop the next pandemic before it becomes another global killer.
