Berkeley in the Sixties

Synopsis
Tells the story of a small group of students at the University of California in Berkeley in the 1960s who challenged the establishment and changed the face of America. What started as an interest in politics became the launching point for the free speech and anti war movements in America. Using archive footage interwoven with present day (1990) interviews the film shows civil rights marches, anti-Vietnam protests and the rise of the Black Panthers.

This film was the forerunner of today’s radical documentary making and a snapshot of a time of great change when a nation of youth found its voice and defied the establishment. As well as the archival visual images the film also contains classic music from the era including The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, The Band, Joan Baez and Jefferson Airplane.
