Paul Cézanne: The Man, The Artist, The Myth

Synopsis
Three separate films on Cezanne: 1) PAUL CEZANNE, PAINTER by Elisabeth Kapnist (26 mins) charts the painter’s artistic development from his childhood - marked by his friendship with Emile Zola - to his encounter with the Impressionists. Cézanne’s work opened up new pictorial perspectives. He was the forerunner of modern painting, of whom Picasso said, "Cézanne was the father of us all."

2) THE VICTORY OF CEZANNE by Jacques Deschamps (52 mins) Examines how the reclusive artist went from being ignored to being acknowledged as the master and inventor of abstraction, with unprecedented value in the art market.

3) THE VIOLENCE OF THE MOTIF by Alain Jaubert (30 mins) Cézanne made Mount Sainte-Victoire his motif. He painted it over sixty times from various viewpoints, in various styles and all seasons. The film examines this obsession.
