Samuel Beckett: Works for Radio
- Synopsis
- Released to mark the centenary of the birth of Samuel Beckett [1906-1989], this set of four CDs collects the five works that Beckett created expressly for the radio: All That Fall, Embers, Words and Music, Cascando and Rough for Radio. Also included are The Old Tune (Beckett’s translation of Robert Pinget’s La Manivelle) and the monologue From an Abandoned Work. These historic original BBC recordings, broadcast between 1957 and 1976, were created in close collaboration with Beckett himself and featured many of his most trusted interpreters. Actors include Beckett specialists Jack MacGowran, Patrick Magee, Harold Pinter and Billie Whitelaw; directors include Donald McWhinnie, Martin Esslin and Barbara Bray
