Shakespeare Week

Synopsis
The ‘Shakespeare Week’ was a ‘Nikki Bedi Show’ radio special. From 26-30 June 2006, the Asian culture programme hosted by presenter Nikki Bedi devoted its arts and entertainment section to Shakespeare. ‘Behind the Scenes’, a midday slot that began around 13:45 and lasted between 10-20 minutes, was meant to give an indication about the variety of the culture industry that promotes Shakespeare. Episodes covered a visit to the Globe, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), Shakespeare’s influence on Bollywood Shakespeare, and an attempt to "understand the man behind the myth" (press information). In the afternoon slot entitled ‘On Stage’ (starting around 15:30, lasting 15-30 minutes) various Shakespeare scholars were invited to discuss the significance of Othello, Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of Venice, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in a multicultural context.
