Liza with a ‘Z’

Synopsis
In May 1972, Liza Minnelli, the Oscar winning star of that year’s blockbuster musical ‘Cabaret’ made television history with a televised concert filmed at New York’s prestigious Lyceum Theatre. The show proved to be the most widely acclaimed of Minnelli’s career. Hailed at the time as a ‘landmark performance’ and the ‘performance of a lifetime’, LIZA WITH A ‘Z’ was awarded four Emmys and a Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Musical/Variety.

Now, for the first time in over 34 years, Liza Minnelli fans will have the chance to experience all the glitz and glamour of this dazzling musical spectacular thanks to Anchor Bay UK’s forthcoming release of LIZA WITH A ‘Z’ on DVD, fully restored and remastered, with optional Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and featuring never-before-seen footage.

Directed and choreographed by Broadway legend Bob Fosse (the Oscar winning director of ‘Cabaret’) and featuring songs by John Kender and Fred Ebb, the award-winning composers of both ‘Cabaret’ and ‘Chicago’, LIZA WITH A ‘Z’ is a musical tour-de-force showcasing the remarkable talents of a legendary performer at the very top of her game.

From the tongue-twisting gaiety of Minnelli’s signature tune, ‘Say Liza (Liza With A ‘Z’)' to the bittersweet poignancy of Charles Aznavour’s ‘You’ve Let Yourself Go’ and the showstopping brilliance of the ‘Cabaret’ medley, the show is a timeless record of an unforgettable extravaganza of song and dance. Boasting Bob Fosse’s trademark sexually charged choreography and fabulously outrageous costumes by superstar fashion designer Halston, LIZA WITH A ‘Z’ captures all the razzle-dazzle of this career defining performance by a true Broadway and Hollywood legend, Liza Minnelli.

Special Features include: never before seen lost musical number ‘Mein Herr’ from Liza With A ‘Z’; concert commentary by Liza; a conversation with Liza Minnelli at the Toronto Film Festival premiere; Liza interviews the legendary John Kander, composer of Chicago and Cabaret; Liza performs at the 2005 GLAAD Awards; biographies; Stereo 2.0; optional 5.1 and DTS; subtitles for the hard of hearing.
