Synopsis: Final concert in a week’s series of BBC Radio 3 ‘Afternoon Performances’ dedicated to showcasing music written for and inspired by the works of Shakespeare and other literary authors. The Shakespeare-related items in this episode’s playlist include: Shostakovich’s suite from the film score to Kozintsev’s HAMLET (1964);Tchaikovsky’s Fantasy Overture: Romeo and Juliet, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda who also conducts Bedrich Smetana’s Richard III.
