- Synopsis
- Using a combination of dramatic reconstruction and spectacular photography, Simon Schama’s series transports the viewer back to the intense moments when eight iconic works of art were conceived and born. The works are Pablo Picasso’s Guernica, Jacques-Louis David’s The Death of Marat, Gianlorenzo Bernini’s Ecstasy of St Theresa, Rembrandt’s The Conspiracy of the Batavians under Claudius Civilis, JMW Turner’s Slavers Throwing Overboard the Dead and Dying - Typhoon Coming On, Caravaggio’s David with the Head of Goliath, Mark Rothko’s Suite of Paintings for the Seagram Building, and Van Gogh’s Wheat Field with Crows.
