Thunderbolt

Synopsis: Feature film. The first half of the narrative is a loose-reworking of Othello. Yinka from the Yoruba tribe and Ngozi, an Ibo, meet in the National Youth Service Corps in Nigeria. The seeds of jealousy are planted when a friend of Yinka suggests that Ngozi id having a secret affair because ‘Ibo are untrustworthy’. Yinka is prompted to put the curse of ‘Magun’ (a sexually transmitted curse) upon Ngozi. The film becomes a political comment making connections between Shakespeare’s Othello who rejects the truth and the neglect that defines the West’s response to AIDS in Africa.
