Secrets of Mellor Hilltop: 8 Years of Digging, 8000 Years of History

Synopsis
A record of the excavations at Mellor, near Stockport, from 1995 to 2006. Using aerial photography, animated graphics and virtual reality reconstruction, the programme reveals the succession of habitation on the hilltop, with its deep defensive ditch, outer boundary ditch, roundhouse gullies, post-holes and pits. Shows geophysical techniques, volunteers excavating the site and making finds, and archaeologists explaining how to interpret what is uncovered. Includes in detail the most important finds - a Neolithic flint chisel, a Bronze Age flint dagger, the reconstructed Iron Age Mellor pot, Roman brooches, and a mediaeval arrowhead - but also chronicles the human side of the endeavour.
