Kennedy-Nixon Debate, The

Synopsis
The first of the four debates, held in Chicago on 26 September 1960, was confined to a discussion of domestic issues. It begins as each candidate makes opening remarks; each of the four interviewing correspondants introduce themselves; the candidates discuss Mr. Kennedy’s ability to govern in light of his age and experience; Mr. Nixon responds to President Eisenhower’s famous quip
regarding his personal contributions to Eisenhower’s presidential policies; domestic economic and social spending is discussed, as well as the internal communist threat, followed by each candidate’s summation speech.
