Synopsis
A video essay on the birth of the constitutional state. The modern western parliamentary system was developed according to the Athenian model that was created in Greece 2,500 years ago. The video examines the cultural factors that led to the concept of equality and the birth of democracy, and what needs to be done to protect democracy today.

DVD extras include a feature on Kyrenia Liberty, a replica of an ancient Greek ship excavated in 1967, and THE REVERSE OF DEMOCRACY IN ATHENS - AN INCREASE IN SLAVERY.
