Flesh & Blood/Double Take

Synopsis
A double bill of two British modern dance classics. To celebrate twenty years of choreography, 1984 - 2004, Lea Anderson, with The Cholmondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs, presented a unique reworking of early seminal works for their anniversary tour. The previously all-female Cholmondeleys became men, and the traditionally male Featherstonehaughs, women. Together they presented the Cholmondeleys’ 1989 classic Flesh & Blood, plus Double Take, a collection of highlights from early Featherstonehaugh pieces.

Both halves of this anniversary double bill have been specially reworked for film and are presented here as two separate DVDs in a single case. They can be viewed as standalone works, or as a double bill with clear resonances and tensions between the two. At the end of each half, Lea Anderson talks about how she made the pieces, and how she approached the process of re-staging them. A CD of the music for each piece, by Steve Blake, is available separately.
