Synopsis
The aims of this course are to develop the student’s knowledge and understanding of the society and culture of contemporary France; to develop and extend skills in analysing, critically evaluating and synthesising written and spoken French; and to consolidate knowledge and competence in the French language. By the end of the course students should be able to use their skills in a variety of ways: understanding extracts from news items or documentaries; expressing views and opinions in writing; obtaining information and ideas from different sources; sustaining a conversation or debate on general topics, and developing critical and analytical skills appropriate to Level 3, currently the highest-level French course.
The course has seven themes that give a broad introduction to different aspects of contemporary France and French-speaking countries. Each of the seven packs consists of video, audio CD and written material.

NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
