Saved!
Synopsis
Since 1903 the National Art Collections Fund has helped purchase more than 500,000 works of art for British museums and galleries. This amazing collection is celebrated in a film made alongside the Hayward Gallery’s exhibition Saved! to mark the NACF’s centenary. Ten of the greatest artworks bought with NACF help, among them Velasquez’s ‘Rokeby’ Venus and the Beckett Casket, are celebrated by curators and guests including author Ben Okri, broadcasters Joan Bakewell and Lloyd Grossman, and Tony Banks MP. The film also explores the history and workings of the Art Fund and highlights some of the most significant losses to national collections in the last 100 years.
