Primo
- Synopsis
- PRIMO was adapted by Antony Sher from Primo Levi’s account of his year spent in Auschwitz, IF THIS IS A MAN. Recorded at the Hampstead Theatre in March 2005 following its run at the National Theatre, and presented in a symbolist set by Hildegard Bechtler. PRIMO recounts Levi’s journey by cattle truck to Auschwitz, his initial harrowing days in the infamous death camp and continues through the first desperate winter, the forging of friendships, the routine of daily life and the regular and barbaric process of ‘selections’ that determined who would live and who would die. The narrative concludes during the second winter when the camp is liberated by a small group of unbelieving Soviet troops.
